Why do we describe SlurryForSoil as a slurry inoculant not a slurry additive?
‘Slurry additive’ is a commonly used term but it fully describe what SlurryForSoil is and does?
At Sylgen Animal Health, we’re passionate about empowering farmers to create healthy, thriving soil ecosystems. It’s the foundation of a farm and influences everything from forage quality and yield to livestock health and, ultimately, the bottom line.
To achieve this goal, we’ve developed a unique product called SlurryForSoil, which is designed to enhance the beneficial microbial activity in your soil and support plant health and resilience. While some might think of SlurryForSoil as a slurry additive, we firmly believe that its benefits warrant a more nuanced classification: a slurry inoculant.
Difference between slurry additives and inoculants
Additives are substances that are mixed into a liquid medium to achieve specific properties or effects. They provide essential nutrients or boost certain processes without fundamentally changing the underlying ecosystem. Slurry additives can be useful, but they often focus on short-term gains like crust reduction rather than long-term soil and plant health.
Inoculants, on the other hand, introduce live microorganisms into a system with the intention to establish beneficial microbial populations. SlurryForSoil works by introducing 18 different strains of bacteria and fungi that can colonise and thrive in your soil. Its benefits extend well beyond the boundary of slurry where it does what any good additive does: breaks down organic matter to prevent and reduce crusts; captures nutrients preventing losses to the environment; and, liquefying slurry in order to make it easier, cheaper and quicker to handle and apply.
The microbes in SlurryForSoil go on to continue their work, for example, breaking down organic matter in soils, solubilising and transporting minerals, forming symbiotic relationships with plants giving them greater access to water and nutrients, helping to build soil structure – all essential functions for a healthy soil ecosystem.
Why SlurryForSoil is an inoculant
So, why do we describe SlurryForSoil as a slurry inoculant rather than an additive? For several reasons:
- Live microorganisms: SlurryForSoil contains a unique blend of live microorganisms that are specifically designed to establish beneficial microbial populations in your slurry and soil.
- Ecosystem engineering: By introducing these microbes into your soil, we’re creating the conditions for a healthy ecosystem to flourish. This approach fosters long-term soil health and resilience rather than just providing short-term benefits.
- Holistic benefits: The microorganisms in SlurryForSoil work together to break down organic matter, solubilise minerals, and help build soil structure – all of which contribute to a more balanced and thriving ecosystem, which benefits the plants grown in the soil.
SlurryForSoil is not just another slurry additive
SlurryForSoil is not just another slurry additive – it’s a powerful inoculant that can help you create a healthier, more resilient soil ecosystem. By choosing SlurryForSoil, you’re investing in the long-term fertility and productivity of your soil, as well as its ability to support the diverse array of microorganisms that call it home.
